Trip insurance companies - AIG
Wondering if anyone knows about AIG and how good they are with paying claims specific to cancellation for any reason. I will be traveling to Africa in 2026 and I’m looking for a reasonable policy. Thanks.

Maybe you aren't based in the US?? there are very few insurance/financial companies that are more 'well known' than AIG

I use Seven Corners for medical and evacuation/repatriation, have never bought cancel for any reason.
If I were shopping for a new company I would use squaremouth.com and insuremytrip.com to look for options.

"very few insurance/financial companies that are more 'well known' than AIG"
I think you will find there are dozens of financial and insurance companies that are more well known (and better respected) than AIG. They have had a troubled history which started before the 2007 financial crisis when in 2005 an investigation by the New York Attorney General resulted in a $1.6 billion fine and criminal charges for some execs.
I think their travel Insurance business was sold to Zurich, one of the worlds largest insurers and are very well respected. If you have concerns then I would suggest engaging with a reputable insurance broker who understands the market. I assume from your comment re "cancel for any reason" (which is only really a US thing), that you are based in the US? If not and you happen to be in Europe I could point you in the direction of several companies.
It may also be worth checking out some of the review sites like Trustpilot.com or similar, who will provide reviews on claims experience etc from people who have actually taken out cover with them.
As always, it is essential to read the T&Cs of the policy carefully to ensure that it provides the cover you think and to FULLY disclose and pre existing medical conditions of yourself or close relatives, no matter how minor they may seem.
