Packages to Santiago

As of right now, there are no packages being offered from Toronto or Montreal to Santiago. Even when our carriers stopped flying to Santiago, they continued to offer trips there from the Holguin airport. I was hoping that the direct flights were going to come back soon. This seems to be a step in the wrong direction. Hopefully this will change closer to the winter season for lovers of this part of Cuba.

Santiago de Cuba was my main Cuba destination for years. It is sad that they are not getting the economical help that an abundance of tourists can provide. I have heard that at least one of Santiago's beach resorts needs a lot of repairs done to properly welcome tourists back again. Santiago is a great city to visit and I hope that more flights (especially from Canada) will resume this coming winter or very soon thereafter. The first time that I ever went to Santiago was through Holguin airport for some odd reason. That long bus (or taxi) ride from Holguin is not always appealing. I have done it enough times.

All of my previous trips to Santiago were a direct flight. Haven't been there since shortly after Fidel passed and we saw his final resting place. We got a great deal on an 11 or 12 day package and stayed at the Casa Granda. I see that SunWing is starting up flights again this winter to Camaguey. I can't imagine that this area would have more interest than the resorts and hotels in and around Santiago.

We were actually there for Fidel's funeral. A big deal it was, as the casket was driven through the city streets.

Flights are resuming for Camagüey? That is a very good sign. I wonder if CCO knows this?

I see packages listed for Santiago again starting September 20 out of Toronto. Unfortunately the flights are still to Holguin.

We would have liked to spend more than just a day trip to Santiago. Our travel agent has confirmed that there will be no flights this winter direct to Santiago from anywhere in Canada.

Looks like Sunwing did pull the plug on the flights to Camaguey. I expected this to happen.
