Puerto Vallarta area

I am looking at Riviera Nayarit just north of Puerto Vallarta. Does anyone have any comments on that area good or bad and is there bus service into Puerto Vallarta?
thank you

Hola Warren, I vacation in Puerto Vallarta regularly but I always stay in town. Nuevo Vallarta (recently dubbed Riviera Nayarit) is noth of the city about 30-40 minutes. It is where the newer mega resorts are located. I don't have "good or bad" to say but it's not for me as the reason I head to PV is about how much I like the vibrant energy of the town. If you want to stay on a nice resort and the property is your priority, then Nuevo might work for you. There is the town of Bucerias out that way, smaller but closer than coming all the way into PV.

Happy to answer any questions about things to see and do in PV, arriving the airport, transportation, etc. Yes there is a public bus system.

(sorry no idea what that "spoiler" think is on the top of my post. couldn't make it go away).

Wondering if you have you been in this area before? Or other places in Mexiso? I can't tell if your question is as a true "newbie" or someone who has been to Puerto Vallarta before but now considering staying more out north.

Just as reference, probably not that you'd know it on the ground there. Puerto Vallarta is in the state of Jalisco. Nuevo Vallarta is actually in a different state, Nayarit. Mentioning only as you might notice that in addresses for resorts and could matter for things like taxis.

I'll check in again.

I have only been to Zihuatanejo and Cancun so not familiar with PV area but thank you for explaining that to me. Will do more research before making a decision.

Definitely use the maps in the first post. It will show you how things are laid out around the Bay of Banderas. Click up and down, moves you around to the different areas.

I've only been to PV, and a couple times on the Baja, so can't compare PV to the places you've been. I guess by reputation only I'd say Nuevo is more like Cancun, and PV is more like Zijuat?

My wife and I have stayed in this area many times. We typically stay in the Flamingos area of Nuevo. We have enjoyed it. It feels safe. It’s a short walk or cab ride to the Mega or La Comer for groceries. It’s about a 30 - 45 minute walk into Bucerias where we go every evening for dinner. Every place is phenomenal. There is a path from Flamingos to Bucerias or you can walk the beach. The La Cruz Sunday market is a must visit.

There is a bus service into PV and we’ve taken that a few times, as well. Works well.

suze, I don't think the OP is still looking. He posted back in September - it was his one an only ever post and he's never returned. Thread was topped by another first timer.

I'm in a studio apartment in Zona Romantica, near Lazaro Cardenas plaza in the heart of old town. I've always stayed in this same neighborhood but at a few different hotels and condo complexes. I think this is my 35th trip here... mas o menos
