EgyptAir Refund Policy - help

Hi everyone,

We are looking into buying flight tickets with EgyptAir, but these are going to be our "backup tickets" - our current flights on Air Canada might be cancelled due to a potential strike that may be coming up. So these backup tickets need to be refundable in case the strike doesn't happen and we are able to fly on Air Canada as planned. The fare terms are as shown below. We are having some trouble deciphering this. Does this mean that we can cancel the tickets for a $150 fee? In other words, if the ticket costs $1,000 each, then we will get $850 back for each ticket?

Any help would be appreciated.

CANCELLATIONS

I'm not a travel policy terms & conditions expert, but I read it the same as you do

$1000 fare minus $150 penalty = $850 refund

1. THE AMOUNT PAID ON THE REFUNDABLE FARE COMPONENT IS REFUNDED MINUS ANY APPLICABLE PENALTY

A different plan B (or plan C) would be to look into other Star Alliance flight options - including connecting on UA through the US, Lufthansa Canada to Germany onwards to Greece, or Austrian or Turkish, also Star Alliance members. IF your flight is cancelled arming yourself with alternate flight options (ahead of time) may get you there on your original ticket...

You can search for all Star Alliance flight options at staralliance dot com. Since Star Alliance partners codeshare many flights, pay close attention to who is actually operating the flight... if it is Air Canada and they are on strike, then it's not a plan B..

If you’re a no-show, it’s a bigger hit—CAD 250. And if part of your ticket is non-refundable, you’ll only get the refundable portion back, minus that cancellation fee.
