Sentosa Island

Sentosa, which means "peace and tranquillity" in Malay, is far from tranquil these days. Located to the south of the main island, and connected to it via a causeway, this former fishing village was converted into a holiday resort back in 1968. These days it’s filled with pristine artificial beaches, golf courses, the hotel-and-casino hub Resorts World, and various other hotels, bars, and restaurants.

Singapore is made up of 63 islands, and they have several other spots that are well worth a visit. A ride to Pulau Ubin offers a glimpse of what Singapore was like before modernization; ferries can also get you to to Kusu and St. John’s, two of the Southern Islands, both of which have some especially good sights on offer.
