Sol

This neighborhood, built in the 16th century around the Puerta del Sol, used to mark the city’s geographic center, which today sits a tad to its east. Sol encompasses, among other sites, the monumental Plaza Mayor and the popular pedestrian shopping area around Callao. It remains the nerve center of Madrid.
